New to the GCC fleet is this beautiful 1956 Ford Thunderbird! The vehicle was purchased by the current owner 2 years ago, and prior to acquisition, a photo-documented restoration was performed receiving 287.5 points out of a possible 300 at the Des Moines, Iowa, Classic Thunderbird Club international Concours in 2013.
The first character in the VIN, the letter “P”, indicates that this Thunderbird was manufactured with a P-code 312-cu.in. optional Thunderbird Special V-8, rated at 215 horsepower when new. With the exception of a spin off oil filter, the engine has been restored to original specification, according to the seller. The transmission is a three-speed manual with overdrive. The seller reports that the transmission and clutch are both smooth and functional, and that the overdrive (operated by a pull lever under the dash) works perfectly.
The paint is of the highest quality with little to no blemishes visible. The car has a beautiful, like new, convertible top with no wrinkles, rips, or stains. The chrome exterior details all appear to be in excellent condition. The interior material is stock vinyl with no cracks, stains or blemishes and matches the original red and white vinyl indicated on the body tag. The carpet is original equipment and is also in excellent condition. All gages and indicators operate and work as they should, and the original Town & Country radio is reportedly functional. Both windows roll up and down smoothly per the current owner.
